Solution Focused Hypnotherapy for Menopause

Calm Your Mind, Reduce Symptoms, and Feel Like Yourself Again

Menopause can bring significant physical, emotional, and psychological changes. Many women find that alongside hormonal shifts come anxiety, low mood, sleep problems, overwhelm, and loss of confidence.

Solution focused hypnotherapy offers a gentle, practical, and evidence-informed approach to supporting wellbeing during perimenopause and menopause—helping you feel calmer, clearer, and more in control.

Are Menopause Symptoms Affecting Your Daily Life?

You may recognise some of the following:

  • Anxiety or increased worrying

  • Low mood or emotional sensitivity

  • Poor sleep or night-time overthinking

  • Brain fog or reduced concentration

  • Loss of confidence or motivation

  • Irritability or feeling overwhelmed

  • Difficulty coping with stress

  • Feeling unlike yourself

If so, you are not alone. Menopause affects the brain as well as the body, and emotional symptoms are both real and valid.

How Menopause Affects the Brain

Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can significantly affect how the brain regulates mood, stress, sleep, and emotions.

Oestrogen plays a role in:

  • Emotional regulation

  • Stress response

  • Sleep quality

  • Memory and focus

As hormone levels fluctuate, the brain can become more sensitive to stress, making anxiety, overwhelm, and low mood more likely—even in women who have previously coped well.

What Is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

Solution focused hypnotherapy is a forward-focused therapeutic approach that combines:

  • Solution focused brief therapy techniques

  • Neuroscience-based psychoeducation

  • Clinical hypnosis

Rather than analysing the past, this approach focuses on helping the brain move out of prolonged stress responses and into a calmer, more balanced state.

It is practical, structured, and tailored to your individual experience of menopause.

How Can Hypnotherapy Help with Menopause?

Solution focused hypnotherapy does not treat menopause itself, but it can be highly effective in helping manage the emotional and psychological symptoms that often accompany it.

Hypnotherapy can help to:

  • Reduce anxiety and overwhelm

  • Improve sleep quality

  • Calm the nervous system

  • Improve emotional regulation

  • Reduce stress reactivity

  • Restore confidence and self-belief

  • Improve focus and mental clarity

  • Support resilience during hormonal change

Many women report feeling more like themselves again, even while navigating ongoing physical changes.

A Calm, Supportive Approach During a Time of Change

Menopause can be a time of uncertainty, identity shifts, and increased pressure—particularly when juggling work, relationships, and responsibilities.

Solution focused hypnotherapy provides:

  • A calm, non-judgemental space

  • Practical tools you can use daily

  • Support without medicalisation

  • A focus on coping, resilience, and wellbeing

Sessions are adapted to your energy levels and needs, recognising that menopause is not the same experience for everyone.

What Happens in a Solution Focused Hypnotherapy Session?

Each session is relaxed, supportive, and confidential.

Sessions typically include:

  • Gentle discussion about current symptoms and goals

  • Simple explanations of how stress and hormones affect the brain

  • Guided relaxation and hypnosis to calm the nervous system

  • Practical strategies to support emotional wellbeing

You remain fully aware and in control at all times. Hypnosis is not sleep and does not involve loss of control.

A Real Client Story: “I Didn’t Recognise Myself Anymore”

(Details changed for confidentiality reasons)

Susie came to see me feeling completely overwhelmed and at the end of her tether.

She was a capable, intelligent woman — a business owner, a mother and a partner — who had always described herself as positive, trusting and emotionally secure. But over the previous few years, she felt as though she had slowly lost herself.

Susie began experiencing intense insecurity and jealousy in her relationship. When her partner went out, her thoughts would spiral and her body would react with anxiety and panic. Although she knew her reactions felt irrational, she couldn’t seem to control them. These emotions would eventually surface as anger and conflict, leading to frequent arguments.

At home, Susie found herself constantly exhausted and easily overstimulated. She became snappy and impatient with her children. Her 19-year-old daughter even threatened to move out, telling her she no longer recognised her mum.

Work, which had once felt manageable, now felt overwhelming. Susie experienced brain fog, difficulty concentrating and scattered thinking. She missed deadlines, doubted her decisions and felt deeply embarrassed that she couldn’t function as she once had.

Her biggest fear was this:

“What if this is just who I am now?”

Through Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, we didn’t dwell on analysing everything that had gone wrong in Susie’s life.

Instead, we focused on reducing stress and supporting her nervous system.

When stress levels are high, the brain remains stuck in survival mode, which intensifies menopause symptoms such as hot flushes, sleep disruption, emotional reactivity and fatigue.

Using deep relaxation and solution focused techniques, Susie’s nervous system began to settle. As her stress levels reduced:

  • Her sleep quality improved

  • Her emotional reactions became more manageable

  • Her focus and concentration increased

  • She felt calmer and more in control at work and at home

Most importantly, Susie told me:

“I feel like myself again.”

Not a different person — just a steadier, calmer version of who she already was.

Client Testimonials

“I came to Laura as feeling a loss of confidence and self doubt. Combined with guilt over things from the past. It was effecting my sleep and I was distracted during the day. After an initial consultation where Laura explained hypnotherapy and how she worked, I booked in and had 3 sessions. Really glad I did. Laura works in a relaxed environment and I found the whole process calming and relaxing. To the point I could easily have nodded off. I left the sessions feeling much lighter and have continued with the visualization exercises. Definitely recommend.” — LT, Female, 43

“I cannot recommend Brighter Future Therapy Practice enough, my anxiety levels were through the roof before starting my sessions and now they’re at zero. As someone who isn’t big on talking about myself/my problems with strangers I was very apprehensive going into my first session however once in the room with Laura I just felt so at ease & comfortable talking with her. My sessions with Laura have taught me how to not let my anxiety get the better of me, to look for positives instead of focusing on negatives. I leave each session feeling lighter and more at ease within myself. After a good few years of me saying oh no therapy isn’t for me I now would recommend therapy to anyone who is struggling and I would 100% recommend Laura as she has helped me immensely.” — CB, Female, 47

Frequently Asked Questions About Hypnotherapy and Menopause

Is Hypnotherapy Safe During Menopause?

Yes. Solution focused hypnotherapy is safe and non-invasive when delivered by a trained and insured practitioner.

It does not involve medication and can be used alongside medical treatment, including HRT, if appropriate. Hypnotherapy focuses on supporting emotional wellbeing and stress regulation, not replacing medical care.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

The number of sessions varies depending on individual symptoms and goals. Many women notice positive changes within 6–12 sessions, particularly in sleep, anxiety levels, and emotional resilience.

Progress is reviewed regularly, and sessions are never continued unnecessarily.

Is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy Evidence-Based?

Solution focused hypnotherapy integrates elements of solution focused brief therapy, neuroscience-informed psychoeducation, and clinical hypnosis.

While hypnotherapy is not a medical treatment, solution focused approaches are widely used within therapeutic and wellbeing settings. Many women choose this approach because it is structured, practical, and empowering.

Can Hypnotherapy Help With Hot Flushes?

Yes, clinical hypnosis is an effective treatment for hot flushes, significantly reducing their frequency and severity by teaching the brain to manage the body's temperature perception.

Studies showing over 70% improvement in some cases, outperforming even cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and offering a non-hormonal option for menopausal relief. It works by using guided relaxation and visualization (like cool breezes) to calm the body's stress response, allowing women to gain control over debilitating symptoms like night sweats and improve sleep quality.
